Life Healthcare achieves global Novalis Certification for radiosurgery excellence

First hospital group in South Africa to have all stereotactic radiosurgery sites accredited

Life Healthcare is proud to announce that both Life Eugene Marais Hospital and Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital have received full, four-year Novalis certification for their cranial and extracranial stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS/SBRT) programmes. Stereotactic radiosurgery uses highly focused radiation beams to treat cancer tumours and other abnormalities in the brain and body without making any incisions. This precise technique targets the affected area with minimal impact on surrounding healthy tissue.

This prestigious certification is awarded by the Novalis Expert Group, a global network of clinicians dedicated to advancing the field of radiosurgery.

With Life Hilton Private Hospital achieving the same certification in 2022, Life Healthcare has become South Africa’s first private hospital to receive this coveted recognition and to have all its stereotactic radiosurgery sites accredited. “This certification confirms that our programmes meet rigorous international standards for quality, safety, and innovation in stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy for cancer patients”, says Natalie Clarke, National Radiotherapy Manager at Life Healthcare.

For patients, this certification means access to world-class treatment options that adhere to the highest standards of care. The advanced technology and techniques used in stereotactic radiosurgery allow for precise targeting of cancer tumours, minimising damage to surrounding healthy tissue and reducing recovery times. Patients can expect improved outcomes and improved quality of life as a result of these cutting-edge treatments.

“The Novalis certification is testament to Life Healthcare’s expertise and dedication to our purpose of making life better. It recognises the hard work and collaboration of our radiotherapy teams, who have been instrumental in achieving this milestone. “The certification also provides a framework for continuous improvement, as the auditor’s recommendations will help us refine and strengthen our services even further”, says Dr Karisha Quarrie, Head: Clinical Directorate at Life Healthcare.

Oncology services provided by Life Healthcare are underpinned by a commitment to move oncology care forward so that patients can look forward to life’s moments. “Our investment in oncology services and technology is driven by our dedication to patients, affirming our patient-centred approach to healthcare delivery”, adds Dr Quarrie.

“This recognition places our radiotherapy teams among a prestigious group of healthcare professionals globally committed to delivering the highest standard of care.

We express our gratitude to the radiotherapists, Yenzakahle medical physicists and oncologists based in the units for their dedication and hard work in reaching this milestone. Lastly, a special thanks to the auditor, Dr James Robar, for his invaluable insights and guidance throughout the certification process”, concluded Clarke.
