Life Healthcare sale of St Mary’s Hospital
Life Healthcare has announced the sale of its 55% stake in Life St Mary’s Private Hospital in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, to a private equity firm Summit, delivering healthcare services through Crestcare Hospitals.
The strategic decision to sell the hospital included extensive discussions and careful consideration of various factors, including the evolving local business environment and stakeholders needs.
Both Life Healthcare and Crestcare have been committed to maintaining business continuity during the transition period to ensure patient care is not disrupted or compromised because of this transaction.
Crestcare have been working alongside both Life Healthcare’s management and the operations teams at Life St Mary’s Hospital in the process leading up to the 3 December date of conclusion of the transaction. Doctors and employees have been engaged to gain inputs and to jointly define the future of St Mary’s Hospital.

Life Healthcare employees have been transferred to Crestcare now that the transaction has been concluded, ensuring that patients continue to be cared for by the same caring and compassionate staff that they have become accustomed to.
The hospital’s telephone number will remain the same to ensure patients are able to communicate with the hospital as normal.
