Introduction

An exciting vacancy exists for a Unit Manager-Radiation Unit within Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital Oncology Unit, reporting to the Hospital Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for rendering a quality clinical radiological service, which is effective and efficient.

Critical Outputs
  • Senior responsibilities in treatment and planning
  • Ensure International best practice in all radiotherapy services
  • Promote radiotherapy services and provide guidance and support to the National Oncology Manager and Hospital Manager.
  • Develop the level of technology, techniques and workflow procedures used in the RT dept
  • Active participation in determination and implementation of management objectives
  • Plays an integral part in organizing and monitoring the treatment section to meet the needs of those patients receiving Radiation Therapy services.
  • Supervises and trains all therapy personnel
  • Supervises equipment management, administration of the quality assurance plan.
  • Attends and participates in department committees and meetings.
  • Assists department in meeting strategic goals and objectives
  • Manages the technical staff (Radiation Therapists and Lead Radiation Therapist) and oversees the clinical operations of the Radiation Oncology patient treatment areas
  • The management of the radiation therapist staff includes maintaining proper staffing levels, hiring and terminating staff as appropriate, performing performance evaluations and initiating any disciplinary action as needed.
  • Manages accurate radiation services to patients.
  • Assists and adapts in meeting department goals and objectives. Creates learning objectives for the therapy staff with learning instructions and competencies that are completed yearly.
  • Manages and schedules therapy staff to various equipment, establishes work goals and reviews employee performance.
  • Promotes and empowers staff learning of new skills to engage the staff in the entire Radiation Therapy team process.
  • Schedules and organizes equipment training and looks for new equipment and techniques to keep the therapists up to date in the radiation therapy field.
  • Ensures necessary supplies are available, stock control.
  • Makes critical decisions regarding clinic operations including after hour treatments and machine downtime plans.
  • Establish and maintain a quality assurance program ensuring that prescribed standards are met at all times
  • Management of the day-to-day administration e.g. maintaining files, record keeping, stock and asset control
  • Radiation planning including stereotactic.
  • Radiation treatments including stereotactic Treatment coding
  • Medical aid authorization & reimbursement knowledge
  • Staff planning & control
  • Oncologist scheduling & treatment liaison
  • Medical Physicist liaison
  • Ensuring the total satisfaction of our clients through continuous improvement and added value.
  • Ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2008 including Life Healthcare internal and external audits
Requirements
  • BTech / BSc Radiotherapy is preferable.
  • At least 10 years of fulltime experience of which 5 years in a senior/lead position in a radiotherapy department
  • Registration with HPCSA
  • Computer literacy is essential
  • A candidate who is a team player, results-orientated, hard-working with good communication skills and customer orientated will be most suitable for this position
