Introduction

A Vacancy exists for a Rehabilitation Practice Manager at the acute Rehabilitation Unit at Life Hilton Private Hospital. The Life Rehabilitation at Life Hilton Rehabilitation unit is part of an expanding network of rehabilitation units within Life Healthcare. The post holder will report to the Hospital Manager, Nicholas Thorne and will be responsible for managing and coordinating clinical practice and resources within the unit to achieve the company and hospital objectives of quality, growth and people. 

Critical Outputs

Growth and sustainability

  • Development and implementation of a sustainable growth strategy to meet the units’ activity targets
  • Ensuring early and equitable access to all appropriate patients requiring rehabilitation, including Life to Life referrals
  • Actively engaging with referral base, including referring specialists, funders and other stakeholders
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives to support sustainable growth

Effective clinical leadership

  • Lead the implementation of the rehabilitation care plan and co-ordinate and facilitate the delivery of the correct treatment plan within the correct MDT program in order to achieve clinical outcomes.
  • Function as a clinical expert in achieving patient outcomes to deliver market leading evidence based clinical care.
  • Support the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to execute integrated care pathways according to Life Healthcare protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in rehabilitation planning, weekly rehabilitation plan reviews, goal setting, and discharge planning
  • Coordinate and attend family meetings and patient/family educational programs
  • Provide patient and family support and effective communication as needed.
  • Ensure competence of staff and students, determine and drive criteria for effective professional socialization, create an environment conducive to learning and provide feedback to relevant stakeholders
  • Promote customer satisfaction within the unit, address customer complaints, conduct quality care rounds and clinical practice audits to monitor care levels and report accordingly.
  • Implement national quality initiatives within the unit with the focus on improved clinical outcomes and report accordingly.
  • Identify clinical and safety risks and trends in all of the above, implement corrective action where necessary and monitor on an ongoing basis.
  • Initiate and drive unit specific best operating practice, communicate these for wider implementation and participate in hospital specific marketing initiatives.
  • Promote patient safety with a proactive approach to ensure a safe clinical environment

Effective leadership and people management

  • Provide visible leadership by coordinating and leading Clinical and Quality Health Service delivery through the effective implementation of Life Healthcare standards, policies and work procedures including occupational health and safety legislation and professional Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrate visible leadership in respect of LHC values, rehabilitation operating model, actively sponsor LHC initiatives and projects to ensure continued and improved productivity
  • Drive and manage all people related processes within the unit.
  • Contribute to positive relationships amongst all members of the Rehabilitation team
  • Ensure effective staff recruitment, retention, and development through mentoring and talent management
  • Support the development of rehabilitation nursing expertise
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives.

Effective financial management (including equipment)

  • Participate in business planning and budgeting processes and manage all costs according to budget
  • Manage stock utilization and drive product management processes with unit together with relevant stakeholders
  • Delivery of cost-effective care across all business processes within the agreed budgetary parameter
  • Optimal and efficient resource utilization as per agreed budgetary parameters
  • Ensure optimal utilization of pharmaceuticals, equipment, and sundries
  • Ensure staff are trained on the operation of equipment within the unit and together with relevant stakeholders ensure equipment is in working order to provide a safe patient environment

Effective relationship with internal & external stakeholders

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders (i.e HOD’s, Enabling functions, patients, family members, service providers etc.) through ongoing communication and feedback
  • Driving of internal and external CPD’s to promote rehabilitation as a specialized field.
  • Create a unit culture, which promotes business objectives, a performance / results orientation, customer focus and teamwork.
  • Constructive liaison between the rehabilitation unit and other hospital functions.
  • Promote and maintain sound and productive relationships with referral sources and stakeholders in the field of Rehabilitation.
Requirements
  • Degree or Diploma in nursing or 4 Year Degree as an Allied Health Professional
  • Current registration with SANC / HPCSA
  • Atleast 3-5 years post registration experience and proven leadership and/or people management experience within healthcare (including clinical competence in the area of orthopaedics, neurology or rehabilitation)
  • Participative and collaborative management style. Capacity to lead, foster and develop a healthy and positive working environment which actively promotes joint performance and value-based culture
  • Demonstrated leadership excellence with proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams, showcasing exceptional communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills to drive optimal team performance and outcomes.
  • Contemporaneous knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, industrial relations, standards, codes, ethics and competency standards
  • Understanding of the private healthcare and or funder industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage.
  • Post Graduate Management / Education qualification experience will be an advantage
