A vacancy exists for an Engineering Planner at Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital reporting to Sbonelo Dube, Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective planning and execution of maintenance activities to ensure optimal reliability of plant and equipment. Key responsibilities include managing preventive and corrective maintenance schedules, supporting engineering projects, and ensuring compliance with all health and safety standards. The role also involves stakeholder coordination, resource planning, and effective use of the SAP system, while driving continuous improvement across all maintenance operations.

Maintenance:
- Develop detailed maintenance plans for all plant and equipment.
- Drawing up and review method statements for shutdown and scheduled maintenance
- Schedule maintenance activities across the facility, leveraging relationships with operations personnel
- Continually improving planning, scheduling, purchasing, stores, data management and job reporting systems to increase planning effectiveness and efficiency, arrange resources to conduct work
- Open and close all jobs, and effective planning and scheduling to meet maintenance targets
- Ensure all parts, labour and buy outs are on the jobs
- Updating and reviewing of SAP works orders on computerized maintenance management(CMM) system
- Develop and implement new maintenance processes throughout various plant and equipment’s
- Use data to predict maintenance needs
- Organize spare parts inventories to prepare for emergency or preventative maintenance needs
- Communicate with Managers to inform on maintenance activities performed and availability of equipment
- Foster a culture of safety awareness through correct maintenance processes
- Ensure that health, safety and environment (OHS act 85 of 1993) is the number one priority and that the maintenance departments housekeeping is continually monitored and attended to.
- Ensuring data integrity on SAP PM
- Improve, develop and report on Maintenance KPI's
- Communicate and track remedial action linked to failures, and estimate job duration with the responsible persons and the clients
- Proactive risk identification and mitigation in alignment with legal regulations, and Life Healthcare standards, procedures and policies
- Effective Stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth workflow
- Effective self-management in alignment with Life Healthcare values
- Ensure that all internal beneficiaries of Maintenance receive timely, efficient and quality service.
- Ensure plant and equipment reliability factor is improving and trends are effectively managed.
- Provide a central source of information concerning maintenance work, equipment, and equipment repair.
- Proactively drive maintenance cost while improving conditions of equipment and operating facilities.
- Collaborate effectively with the maintenance personnel to anticipate repair work before jobs become emergencies.
- Provide sound Root Cause Analysis to the maintenance team of equipment failures and proper documentation of such incidents.
- Regularly assess quality of maintenance planning, recording and archiving in line with ISO quality standards.
- Projects:
- Understanding project specifications and developing time schedules and budgets that meet them.
- Negotiating with vendors and contractors to secure the best prices.
- Observing existing processes, analyzing staff performance, and addressing deficiencies accordingly.
- Monitoring and tracking project progress, and writing up reports.
- Attending and scheduling meetings as required.
- Delegating tasks and ensuring workers provide feedback.
- Understanding and meeting all contract requirements.
- Communicating with managers, and the rest of the team.
- Analyzing technical drawings and providing material and cost estimates.
- Ensuring all projects are completed on time, quality, safe and within budgets.
Supervision:
- Supervise installation and initial startup of engineering equipment.
- Develop and maintain relations with Engineering Manager, quality and maintenance department
- Assist Engineering manager on incidents investigation and data
- Assisting Engineering manager in staff management through collection of staff performance data
- Requirements
-
- At least N5 qualification with Trade Test in either Mechanical or Electrical (Heavy Current) engineering with a minimum of 3 years in operations or engineering maintenance, or S4 in Electrical or Mechanical engineering with minimum 1 year in operations or engineering maintenance
- Practical experience in a hospital environment or similar environment is essential.
- Computer literacy and experience on a CMMS preferably SAP PM would be an added advantage.
