Clinical Practice Pharmacist
Introduction

A vacancy exists for a Clinical Practice Pharmacist based at Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital, reporting to Andrea Muller, Pharmacy Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the clinical pharmacy services within the hospital by ensuring that the quality standards, financial objectives, legislative compliance and clinical criteria are achieved to the required standards.

Critical Outputs

Effective medication safety management

  • Participate in the incident investigation in the pharmacy and wards, where possible, to identify root causes and corrective action.
  • Implement all quality initiatives as identified.
  • Review all ICU prescriptions and monitor all ICU and ward patients to ensure effective and safe drug therapy and provide feedback and advice to healthcare team regarding potential problems.
  • Report Management with Antibiotics
  • Comply with all legal, professional and procedural requirements pertaining to dispensing of prescriptions.

Effective quality management systems

  • Participate in the implementation of and compliance to LHC Quality Management Systems.
  • Ensure compliance with SAPC, DOH and LHC legal and professional standards.
  • Implement components of antimicrobial stewardship program as identified.
  • Implement customer satisfaction and pharmacy quality initiatives.

Effective financial management

  • Participate in achieving hospital budgeted financial measures relating to pharmacy.
  • Participate in the active management of cost of sales of pharmaceuticals in line with revenue and budget.
  • Build effective working relationships with doctors.

Effective asset management

  • Participate in achieving stock targets.
  • Achieve optimal system utilization.

Effective people management

  • Retain, motivate and develop staff according to LHC people policies and practices.
  • Provide direction and inspire positive work behaviour in team.
Requirements
  • Pharm degree
  • Clinical qualification is preferred
  • Relevant clinical knowledge/(clear demonstration of clinical pharmacy exposure/interest) and experience in the critical outputs
  • Current registration with South African Pharmacy Council as a pharmacist
  • Understanding of pharmacy and related healthcare industry, legislation, regulation and challenges
  • Pharmaceutical product knowledge
  • Computer proficiency (MS office)
