Unit Manager
Introduction

A vacancy exists for a qualified, experienced Unit Manager Khumani, reporting to a Business Manager, based at the Life Occupational Health Mining clinic in in the Northern Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for a multidisciplinary team that will meet the Client’s expectations and requirements.

Critical Outputs

To manage the Clinic Operations to:  

  • Establish and maintain business relationships with the Client.
  • Ensuring that the services agreed with the Client contract are provided and are of the agreed standard. Meeting the prescribed professional and quality standards of both Life Occupational Health and the client.
  • Continually assessing client needs and ensuring that the service delivery meets these needs.

People Management:

  • Management of a multidisciplinary health team.
  • Meeting administration needs timeously.
  • Co coordinating the clinic management and planning daily workflow and delegating areas of responsibility.

Budget Accountability

  • Managing the operational expenditure in accordance with the operational budget.
  • To ensure that the services rendered is in line with the professional nursing standards.
  • Ensure clinic stock (medicines and consumables) is controlled, ordered on time, are within budget and complies with required stock levels and contractual requirements.
  • Ensure quarterly stock counts are conducted, with submission of accurate stock count documentation, to the Regional Office, by the set dates. Quality
  • Compliance and Audits. Prepare and assist with clinic audits and ensure all findings are corrected and closed out on time.
  • Problem solving by addressing and identifying the problem areas with the Client and/or Business Manager. Resolving any problem areas or complaints and implementing corrective action where needed
  • Attendance of client and Life Health Solutions meetings.
  • Ensure clinic equipment is calibrated on time, are in good working order and replaced or upgraded when required.

 Coordinate and oversee a medical surveillance program

  • Compile, implement and manage medical surveillance programs and plans in accordance relevant policies, procedures, protocols and the exposure risk matrix and relevant COP’s.
  • Plan and coordinate the conducting of Occupational Health Risk Assessments, with feedback reports to the Client, which would also include information on the elimination, control, prevention and reduction of work, workplace and job-related health risks and hazards to which the employees are, or may be exposed to
  • Monitoring the health status of employees through on-going surveillance programmes.
  • Providing information to the onsite Client that could be utilized to eliminate, control and minimize health risks and hazards to which the employees are, or may be exposed.

Reports

  • Reporting monthly to the Client in the legislated and required format, the clinic statistics.
  • Compile accurate and professional feedback reports to the Client. This will include statistical reports. Report submitted needs to be accurate and on time.

Health And Safety

  • To be an integral part of the Client Health, Safety and Environmental committees by:
  • Being a permanent member of these committees.
  • Providing input on the client health, Safety and Environmental plans and policies.
  • By advising the Client on Health and Safety Issues.
  • Conducting Health Risk Assessments and advising Clients on actions to be taken.
  • Provide input in clients Site Emergency Plan.
Requirements

The following qualifications are required and critical:

  • Ideally, the candidate should have experience in management, administration, employee relations and communications.
  • Management experience.
  • Qualifications in General Nursing, Post Basic Occupational Health Nursing Science/Diploma (critical)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience post-graduation mining environment with the SANC
  • Certificate in Audiometry, Spirometry, Vision, Multidrug test and dispensing and registration.
  • Audiometry registers by SASOHN
  • Computer literacy Microsoft Office (Medical database experience advantageous) & own transport is essential. PowerPoint Presentations.
  • Experience on RMA and COID act reporting and administration.
  • DMR experience.
  • Candidates who result orientated, good communication skills, have initiative and the ability to deliver quality outputs and reduce costs, will be most suitable for this position.
  • Knowledge regarding Occupational Health Mining will be an advantage.
  • Customer orientation, focus and teamwork complete the profile.
  • Driver’s license Code 8.
