Introduction

A vacancy exists for a Porter Supervisor, based at Life Rosepark Hospital reporting to Marlize Potgieter, Admission Supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Porter services in the Hospital environment to ensure that all strategic objectives are met by supervising, motivating and supporting direct reports.

Critical Outputs
  • Ensure effective quality management systems by
    • Developing sound working relationships with internal and external customers in order to provide quality customer care 
    • Participating and ensuring conformance to QMS audit standards
  • Ensure optimum operational efficiency by:
    • Maintaining effective general housekeeping and cleanliness practices in the Admissions area to prevent accidents and improve health and safety. Report any areas of concern to the Admission Supervisor or Maintenance and Cleaning team
    • Ensuring that all equipment e.g. wheelchairs are checked daily to maintain the condition of the chairs, increasing lifespan and eliminating waste, to save maintenance or replacement costs
    • Planning and managing an orderly storage of equipment and movement of patients and equipment from point of entry to exit of hospital
  • Ensuring administrative functions are performed accurately 
  • Ensuring effective people management by
  • Actively sponsoring initiatives and demonstrate visible leadership skill in order to improve productivity and support change 
  • Developing a resourcing plan in order to recruit talented staff in accordance with agreed time periods, taking into account company transformation objectives 
  • Providing direction and inspire positive work behaviour 
  • Developing and manage training plans for the department in order to facilitate talent development 
  • Managing performance ratings for all staff through the performance improvement process
  • Ensuring all transactional processing is managed by the relevant department head in order to provide employee compensation and benefits 
  • Ensuring productive working relationships are supported with minimum IR issues 
  • Ensuring all exit interviews are conducted in order to ensure the retention of critical and talented professional staff 
  • Managing operation costs in accordance with the budget 
  • Actively participate in achieving hospital DSO targets 
  • Ensuring full compliance to national medical regulations
    • Responsible for managing bed requests for direct, medical, and transfer admissions and have direct contact with wards, doctors and doctor’s rooms
    • Responsible to act as patients liaison to patients and families at a critical point in their hospital journey, contributing to clear communication, coordination, and a positive first impression of the hospital
    • Assist line manager in implementing any new initiatives and strategy projects from head office to support innovation and growth
    • Ensure effective working relationships are built and maintained within Life Healthcare functional areas and all other stakeholders are impacted
Requirements
  • Grade 12 
  • Computer literate
  • Able to do training with staff
  • Experience within a healthcare environment including people management 
  • Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage 
  • A comprehensive understanding of customer service and conflict management  
  • Must be physical fit and able to assist with transfer of patients 
  • Flexible working times day and night duty
