Nuclear Operations Manager
Introduction

A vacancy exists for a Nuclear Operations Manager, based at Life Healthcare Head Office, reporting to the General Manager Nuclear Medicine. The Nuclear Operations Manager is a leadership role responsible for strategic management of clinical imaging services across the organisation including successful business operations. The incumbent will be responsible for driving the expansion, integration, and operational excellence of nuclear medicine sites while managing a complex portfolio of medical imaging equipment and ensuring the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.

Critical Outputs

Strategic Site Expansion and Integration

  • Involvement in comprehensive project planning for acquiring new imaging sites
  • Develop, implement and support integration/ development strategies for new nuclear imaging facilities
  • Drive development of new sites with HMs, Procurement, Properties etc.
  • Manage the end-to-end process of site onboarding and operational alignment, supporting regional head radiographers to deliver as required

Equipment Portfolio Management

  • Oversee the medical imaging equipment portfolio
  • Develop and maintain equipment procurement strategies for cost and operational efficiencies
  • Ensure optimal utilisation and maintenance of imaging technologies
  • Conduct regular equipment performance evaluations and recommend upgrades or replacements
  • Work with Procurement to more comprehensively manage SLAs to ensure vendor compliance and support

Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to national and international nuclear medicine service regulations
  • Implement and maintain comprehensive quality management systems for regional head radiographers to drive
  • Develop and drive for the delivery/ compliance of quality assurance protocols by regional head radiographers
  • Manage national/ overall regulatory compliance documentation and reporting based on inputs from regional head radiographers
  • Stay current with evolving regulatory requirements in clinical imaging and increasing nuclear medicine’s compliance with Life Healthcare standards

Financial Management

  • Provide input into the development and management of annual budgets for imaging services
  • Provide input for conducting financial analysis and reporting
  • Identify and drive for efficiency and optimisation opportunities that support the financial health of the practices
  • Provide guidance and insight for regional managers to lead on funder relations and drive on complex or national needs including but not limited to; scan authorisations and LOM’s etc.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders including healthcare professionals, administrators, equipment vendors, and regulatory bodies for national opportunities/ needs relevant to all practices
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication and collaboration within LHC and the nuclear medicine practices
  • Represent the organisation for nuclear medicine in professional forums and industry conferences
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with vendors, doctors, relevant forums etc.
  • Engage with tertiary institutions and drive for student training

Data Analysis and Performance Monitoring

  • Implement advanced data analytics for imaging service performance
  • Generate insights to drive operational improvements
  • Develop performance metrics and dashboards
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and recommend strategic interventions

Project Management

  • Lead complex, multi-site imaging service transformation projects
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables for new sites or systems and processes

People Management

  • Manage regional head radiographers and enable them to effectively manage their direct reports
  • Drive for retention strategies as required for all staff
  • Support staff in identifying opportunities for growth and development
  • Support regional head radiographers in ensuring standardised operational and staff management to entrench Life Diagnostics as a reliable and trusted brand for nuclear medicine services
Requirements
  • Registered Nuclear Medicine Radiographer with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
  • Necessary experience in clinical imaging management
  • Business Management qualification (completed or in progress) preferred
  • Strong understanding of South African healthcare regulatory environment
  • Advanced knowledge of medical imaging technologies and workflows
  • Experience managing direct reports and managing remote teams
