Introduction

A vacancy exists for a National Infection Prevention & Control Specialist, based at Life Head Office, Dunkeld reporting to the Infection Prevention & Control Manager. The suitable candidate will be responsible for Managing the quality of Infection Prevention & Control training, process, standards, policies and procedures, and improved patient outcomes within Life Nkanyisa, Life Renal Dialysis & other complimentary services and will be responsible to identify, evaluate and mitigate risks and engage with relevant stakeholders at head office and facility level.

Critical Outputs

Generic Outputs for National Infection Prevention & Control Specialist:

  • Give innovative input and execute the national infection Prevention & Control strategy aligned with the business strategy.
  • Standardization of IPC standards, policies and procedures and processes to drive quality outcomes.
  • Innovation and identification of opportunities to enhance patient, environment and staff surveillance for improved patient clinical outcome.
  • Monitor facility HAI and related trends and liaise with the hospital management team on best practices and learnings.
  • Monitor outbreaks, determine actions needed support and advise in order to manage outcomes and mitigate further risk.
  • Monitor facilities for emergency preparedness.
  • Monitor hazardous biological agents risk assessments.
  • ICNet and other surveillance systems management and trend identification.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with the National with the National Department of Health, National Institute of Communicable Diseases, OHSC etc.
  • Ensure relevant outbreaks and emerging diseases are reported to the relevant authorities.
  • Assist communications on media holding statements on case media interest and risk litigation.
  • Evaluating and approving products pertaining to IPC ensuring cost effectiveness without compromising quality and positive clinical outcomes.
  • Active participation and contributing to strategic projects.
  • Ensure strategic direction across all business units.
  • Effective engagement and collaboration with various stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies that lead to cost efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for Quality Improvement.
  • Ensure Patient Safety Initiatives pertaining to IPC are embedded in the business.
  • Ensure a pipeline of trained second in charge Infection Prevention and Control specialists
  • Effective monitoring and evaluation of IPC related nursing care delivered.
  • Engage with relevant Stakeholders in the specialized areas.
  • Identify risk-related training needs and develop training material.
  • Facilitate the infection prevention and control module for the short learning programme.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse and midwife with a minimum 60 credit IPC Qualification.
  • At least 5 years’ clinical experience in IPC.
  • Prior experience or qualification in ICU will be an advantage.
  • A deep understanding of IPC risks in renal dialysis will be an advantage.
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally for audit purposes and facility visits.
  • Own car and driver’s license
  • Research orientated.
  • Current SANC registration.
  • Efficient computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Good writing and presentation skills.
