Introduction

A vacancy exists for a Head Radiographer, who will be responsible for the management of the radiographer and clinical team based at Life Eugene Marais Hospital and reporting to the Practice Manager, Louis Conradie.

The successful candidate will be responsible to oversee the day-to-day operations of the diagnostic imaging department as well as all aspects relating to people management, finance, doctor and patient liaison etc.  They will work closely with the radiologists and other stakeholders to ensure quality patient outcomes. Furthermore, the incumbent will manage and co-ordinate resources within the unit to achieve company, business and unit objectives of quality, growth and people.

Critical Outputs
  • Ensure optimal functioning of clinical operations.
  • Drive and manage all people related policies and processes including managing patient complaints/and compliments; scheduling of staff rosters, managing leave, allocation of work etc
  • Ensure all employees are aware and compliant to the policies and procedures of human resources and operations
  • Drive compliance and promote improvement plans to reduce risk and improve employee and patient safety.
  • Maintain acceptable levels of health and safety, and apply the corrective actions to address deviations
  • Participate in business planning and budgeting processes and manage costs
  • Assist in the development, facilitation and implementation of radiology projects
  • Manage stock utilisation and billing
  • Keep up-to-date with current techniques and developments in radiographic and imaging procedures and drive in-service training and completion of CPD’s for all radiographers and other employees
  • Take part in routine daily inspection of equipment and quality assurance procedures
  • Ensure that the clinical staff are applying ALARA and radiation protection principles during the procedures and address any deviances.
  • Report any equipment defects or problems of equipment to ensure constant optimal operational activities.
  • Recruit, retain, motivate, and develop staff according to Life Healthcare policies, protocols, and practices.
  • Support, develop and assist with training of students, staff, and each other. .
  • Participate in all staff meetings and briefings.
  • Maintain CPD compliance. 
  • Perform clinical work (on management’s request)
  • Report all deviances and non-compliances to Management
  • Any other duties that may be required from time to time.
Requirements
  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Qualified radiographer with Btech or degree in Radiography
  • Be registered with HPCSA currently
  • Have at least 5 years general diagnostic radiography experience
  • CT, MRI and Mammography experience is an added advantage
  • 3 years proven experience of managing people or teams 
  • Financial/business acumen and experience is an advantage
  • An ability to communicate verbally and in writing to present information both clinical and non-clinical persons
  • Excellent computer literacy in all MS office packages and
  • Own transport and a valid driver’s license is essential with the ability to travel is essential
