Introduction

A vacancy exists for a Financial Manager Operational Support based at Life Head Office, Rosebank, reporting to Manager: Management Reporting. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial results of the business sections in line with accounting standards and within corporate governance protocols in support of Life Healthcare objectives and strategy.

Critical Outputs

Complementary services reporting and financial management

  • Financial management of the following complementary services lines of business: Mental Health, Acute Rehabilitation and Oncology.
  • Financial management to include profitability, capex and working capital.
  • Prepare and analyse financial management reporting information for executive management

Nursing cost reporting and financial management

  • Monthly financial reporting on nursing costs.
  • Daily tracking of nursing costs and proactive reporting on outlier hospitals on actions required during the month.
  • Regular reviewing of the nursing dashboard to ensure accuracy of reporting and alignment to the general ledger.
  • Regular engagement on nursing cost with the Head Office nursing team and hospitals and providing inputs and insights during such engagements.
  • Costing of changes in nursing norms, permanent to agency employee mix and skills mix.
  • Guidance on nursing cost during the annual budget process including the application of parameters, setting targeted cost levels and efficiency improvement targets.

Capex

  • Monthly update of the capex planning and monitoring report.
  • Reporting on key variances to the planned capex spend.

Learning centres financial reporting

  • Monthly financial reporting and analysis on the learning centres.
  • Effective annual budgeting for the learning centres including the learning centres budget tool.
  • Calculation of charges to the hospitals based on learning centre data.
  • Financial reporting and presentation to the Nursing Education Council meeting biannually.
  • Ad hoc financial assistance to the National Education Manager to improve the accuracy and efficiency in financial controls and reporting.

Self-audit checklist for JSE attestation

  • Maintenance of the self-audit checklist questions for all lines of business.
  • Management of the self-audit checklist process to ensure timeous completion by all facilities and lines of business.
  • Completion of the JSE attestation for presentation to the Audit and Risk Committee.

Ad hoc

  • Prepare schedules and calculations supporting proposed dividend payments at unit level
  • Assisting with the completion of financial inputs to the B-BBEE certification.
  • Compilation and review of the monthly doctor movement report.
  • Compilation and review of the monthly doctor rental report.
  • Calculation and processing of the monthly nursing overtime and flat rates accrual.
  • Compilation and review of the monthly learning centre statistics.
  • Review annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS requirements
  • Any ad hoc tasks as required by the line manager.
Requirements
  • B Com Honours or equivalent in Accounting.
  • Minimum of five years experience in financial management with a proven record of complicated financial analysis and reporting including management reporting and financial modeling.
  • High proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to learn industry specifics i.e. related healthcare terminology.
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • SAP knowledge would be an advantage
  • Onestream knowledge would be an advantage
