Introduction

A vacancy exists for an Artisan at Life Eugene Marais Hospital. The position reports to the Operations Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for Facilities Maintenance Services, including Electrical, HVAC and execution of hospital-based Projects.
Critical Outputs
  • Accurately read and translate electrical blueprints or technical diagrams and networks.
  • Inspect electrical components and equipment, such as transformers, Generators, UPS systems and various types of circuit breakers.
  • Understand and execute inspections, installations and testing of distribution boards (DBs) of low and medium voltage ratings.
  • Perform routine Planned Maintenance on Electrical and HVAC plants.
  • Conduct fault finding on electrical and HVAC plants.
  • Monitor and manage sub-contractors work according to company policies and guidelines, and local building regulations based on SANS10142, R158 and NBR requirements.
  • Supervision, coach, and mentor junior staff members and students trainees.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with OHS Act.
  • Effectively manage hospital-based project assigned by Engineering Manager Manage to meet defined quality, costs and time standards.
  • Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and ordering supplies and equipment using the company’s active CMMS (SAP).
  • Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for HVAC and Electrical installations.  
  • Maintain efficient inventory for Electrical and HVAC spares.
  •  Ensure effective health and safety protocols, housekeeping, and general engineering best practices.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 certificate
  • N5 qualification with Trade Test certificate in Electrical (Heavy Current) engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years in operations or engineering maintenance.
  • Practical experience in a hospital environment or similar environment is essential.
  • Computer literacy and experience of a CMMS, preferably SAP PM would be an added advantage.
