Staff Optimization Manager

A vacancy exists for a Staff Optimization Manager, based at Head Office, Illovo, reporting to the Nursing & Quality Executive South Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for the alignment and implementation of nursing efficiency and excellence across the business through effective interface across functional teams.

Critical Outputs

Nursing Efficiency and Productivity

  • Manage the Full Time Equivalent (FTE) for the staffing of all nursing units by developing an operating model to ensure an optimum skills mix and headcount is achieved
  • Monitor and control the head count and skills mix movement for nursing in the company
  • Access financial information through interaction with internal cross functional teams, analyse the information and provide the nursing function with an interpretation of the information together with corrective guidelines where appropriate
  • Develop benchmarks for staffing across hospitals
  • Optimizing staffing schedules
  • Manage the flexible staffing component of nursing including overtime, agency and demand led requirements
  • Monitor critical clinical and quality indicators
  • Ensure continuous improvement of staffing models, processes and procedures for staffing in line with the company’s best practice

Financial Management

  • Manage the nursing practice budget and associated activities                                                             

Effective building of relationships with internal/external stakeholders

  • Ensure productive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders by participating in various forums, cross-functional activities and by identifying networking opportunities

Provide nursing support to internal and external stakeholders 

  • Provide technical and management support to line management in addressing staffing issues which arise within the business and wider nursing industry

Project management

  • Lead and drive nurse staffing projects across functional teams to align and implement the nursing strategy
  • Bachelors Degree. Post graduate qualification would be an advantage
  • Technical and Professional competence to the critical outputs
  • Understanding of staffing models
  • Understanding of SA healthcare industry as it relates to Nursing and key role-players
  • Understanding of operating structures and relationships within a private hospital environment
  • Proven leadership and people management experience
