Registered Nurse X2 (Theatre Experienced)

Vacancies exists for Registered Nurses X2 (Theatre Experienced), based at Life St James Hospital, reporting to Liesel Smyth, Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for daily checking of the recovery room and emergency equipment, assisting with the induction of anaesthesia and the recovery and care of patients post-anaesthesia, and ensuring patients are pain free before leaving the department.

Critical Outputs

Ensuring effective financial management by

  • Ensuring accurate charging by managing theatre clocking time
  • Ensuring stock is charged according to policy
  • Managing stock by participating in regular stock taking
  • Control of Schedule 5 and 6 drugs

Providing Quality patient care by

  • Obtaining the correct information post-operatively
  • Ensuring that the patient is comfortable and pain free before being sent to the ward post operatively
  • Constant monitoring of the patients condition whilst in the recovery room
  • Patient specific care i.e; positioning, suctioning

Ensuring effective people management by

  • Assist the Unit Manager to correctly monitor the normal and overtime hours
  • Flex when necessary according to theatre activity
  • Ensure the theatre team works according to the scope of practice
  • Give feedback to the unit manager in order to assess optimal performance

Effective SHEQ management by

  • Ensuring the use of personal protective clothing and complying with ISO requirements
  • Ensuring the disposal of medical waste in order to effectively control infection
  • Daily emergency trolley checks

Effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders

  • Attend review meetings to maintain healthy relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Maintain a healthy relationship with external stakeholders by reporting and escalating unresolved issues to the unit manager
  • General Nursing Degree / Diploma
  • Registration with SANC
  • Relevant experience and technical skill to meet the critical outputs
  • Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage
  • Computer proficiency would be an advantage
