A vacancy exists for a Registered Nurse –Theatre Qualified, based at Main Theatre (Orthopedic Theatres) at Life Eugene Marias Hospital, reporting to Betsie Van Den Berg, Theatre Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the surgical team to perform surgical procedures on patients successfully and to ensure that the patient receives optimal care in accordance with company and hospital strategic objectives.

Critical Outputs

Providing Quality patient care by

  • Ensuring accurate preoperative patient assessment is done for each patient and information relevant to perioperative care is accurate and available
  • Maintain standards of and perioperative patient care principles to ensure best clinical outcome and least exposure to risk and harm in the perioperative environment
  • Ensuring that the patient is environment is safe and comfortable during the surgical procedure
  • Work within the relevant legal framework for Nursing and ascribe to the Life Healthcare Values and Vision

Ensuring effective financial management by

  • Ensuring accurate charging of stock
  • Ensure consignment stock, equipment and prosthesis is charged and managed according to policy
  • Managing stock by participating in regular stock take and stock management in accordance with the hospital (local) policy

Affecting the functioning of theatre equipment and instrumentation by

  • Ensuring the correct use of theatre equipment and instrumentation by educating and supervising staff on the correct utilization of the equipment
  • Ensure equipment is clean and maintained before and after use

Ensuring effective people management by

  • Providing theatre specific training and assessing the competence of staff with in the relevant scope of influence
  • Manage own hours worked   and overtime hours effectively according to the needs of the unit
  • Ensure the theatre team works according to the scope of practice
  • Give feedback to the unit manager in order to assess optimal performance

Effective SHEQ management by

  • Ensuring the use of personal protective clothing and complying with ISO requirements
  • Ensuring the disposal of medical waste in order to effectively control infection

Effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders

  • Participate in review and consultative form meetings to maintain healthy relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Maintain a healthy relationship with external stakeholders by reporting and escalating unresolved issues to the unit manager
  • Grade 12
  • General Nursing Degree / Diploma
  • Registration with SANC
  • Post basic qualification in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science
  • Relevant experience and technical skill to meet the critical outputs of perioperative care
  • Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage
  • Computer proficiency would be an advantage
  • Availability to be flexible in operational work hours required and to do call according to the needs of the unit
