Registered Nurse – High Care Experienced

Vacancies exist for Registered Nurses in the ICU/ High care at Life The Crompton Hospital, reporting to the Unit Manager. The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring the effective functioning of the unit and ensuring quality nursing care. 

Critical Outputs

To provide quality patient care through

  • Providing quality basic and specialized nursing care which complies with SANC regulations,  relevant legislation, Life Healthcare policies, procedures and clinical standards
  • Continual communication with the patient and family with regards to the patient’s condition
  • Effective patient advocacy
  • Ensuring effective communication with medical practitioners  and liaison between all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Maintaining and ensuring team members maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all patient care
  • Providing direction to and assisting in the supervision of team members

Assist the Unit Manager in effective people management by

  • Ensuring appropriate delegation and allocation of team members in consideration of patient needs, staff skills and experience
  • Identifying and communicating to the Unit Manager, training needs of team members, facilitating team growth and development
  • Ensuring the High care team works according to the scope of practice and that the correct skills mix is utilised

Assist in ensuring effective management of costs and resources by

  • Adhering to and promoting compliance with unit specific policies and protocols regarding the use and management of stock
  • Ensuring team members are fully orientated to and correctly utilise all equipment and conduct daily checks of all equipment

Assist in maintaining effective Infection Prevention and Control and Health and Safety by

  • Adhering to and ensuring compliance by the team to all policies, procedures and best operating practices related to infection control
  • Adhering to and promoting compliance with all health and safety policies and procedures by all team members
  • Communicating with all relevant stakeholders regarding actual or potential risks and hazards  

Ensuring effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders by 

  • Conducting in-service orientation on doctor specific preferences
  • Ensuring doctors requests and prescriptions are actioned timeously
  • Assisting  multi-disciplinary team members with the execution of their duties
  • Relevant Degree or Diploma in Nursing and currently registered with SANC (midwifery will be advantageous)
  • Must have Nursing experience in ICU/High care at least 3-5 years
  • Strong customer orientation, team player, very energetic and well organised
  • Must be able to work under pressure in a continuously changing environment
  • Strong Interpersonal skills required
  • Must be willing to fulfil a role in the unit according to the flexi-hours system and call system
