A vacancy exists for a Registered Nurse – Advanced Midwife, based at Life Carstenhof Hospital, reporting to the Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing holistic patient care and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders in line with Company & Hospital strategic objectives.
- Critical Outputs

- Comprehensive prenatal care to antenatal and postnatal patients and babies, and the management of patients in labour.
- Strict adherence to Mother and Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Policies and Procedures as to support and promote breastfeeding.
- Provide effective Infection Control and SHEQ by
- Maintaining a safe and holistic patient environment to enforce infection control
- Promoting a safe and healthy working environment by completing SHEQ alerts and incident reports to the SHEQ Coordinator
- Effective cost management for staff and stock by:
- Flexibility in working hours is based on activity and acuity in the unit.
- Optimizing stock management by ensuring stock is charged accurately and timeously and expiry dates are monitored and communicated.
- Ensuring the effective functioning of equipment and instrumentation
- Check equipment and instrumentation are in working condition on a daily basis and report any defaults to Unit Manager and Clinical Engineer
- Educate and supervise staff and doctors on the correct utilisation of specialised equipment and instrumentation
- Providing quality patient care by:
- Ensuring patient documentation is medico-legally defensible and comprehensive.
- Providing accurate, appropriate and adequate health education to patients and family members during hospitalization and in preparation for discharge
- Ensuring gentle principles are employed in managing the patients’ experience in the maternity Unit.
- Monitoring and implementing preventative measures to minimize risk
- Conducting effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Identifying private midwives’/doctors’ preferences and stakeholder’s needs and the implementation thereof in the working environment.
- Ensuring effective record keeping by
- Ensuring records and accurately completed and stored in accordance with legal and ethical requirements
- Requirements
-
- Relevant Degree or Diploma in Nursing with Midwifery
- A postgraduate diploma in Advance Midwifery
- ESMOE trained
- Recent nursing experience in maternity
- Current registration with the relevant professional or regulatory body
- Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage
- Computer proficiency
- Must be able to work under pressure in a continuously changing environment
