Introduction

A vacancy exists for a Regional Manager for KwaZulu-Natal, reporting to Business Operations Head. The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic oversight and operational management of multiple dialysis clinics within a specific region. This includes ensuring clinical excellence, driving business growth, and maintaining financial sustainability. The role involves managing clinic operations, coordinating resource allocation, and fostering a culture of compliance and quality across all units. This role reports directly to the Business Operations Head.

Critical Outputs

Strategy and Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to ensure the growth and continued sustainability of the renal units in the region. This involves adopting best practices, monitoring industry trends, and executing LRC-specific projects. Work closely with unit managers to align clinic-level strategies with regional objectives, ensuring regional consistency and growth.

Financial Management and Clinic Sustainability

  • Ensure the region's financial and clinical sustainability by meticulously reviewing performance and income statements. Manage employee costs, oversee stock management, and apply for CAPEX and upgrades as needed. Use financial performance metrics to identify underperforming units and develop action plans to address financial and operational challenges.

Financial Profitability

  • Drive regional financial profitability by identifying areas for cost savings, optimising resource allocation, and ensuring that all units operate efficiently. Work with unit managers to develop and implement financial action plans to improve underperforming clinics.

Doctor and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Facilitate effective communication with doctors and unit managers to ensure efficient, high-quality patient care. Organise regular meetings with doctors and unit managers, fostering a team-oriented environment within the multidisciplinary team. Build strong relationships with nephrologists and other healthcare providers to improve patient care pathways and address clinical concerns.

Clinic Visits and Management Visibility

  • Plan and conduct regular clinic visits to support unit managers, monitor team performance and patient care, and address any arising issues. Document observations during visits, follow up on identified issues and provide actionable feedback to unit managers.

Project Management Implementation and Roll-out

  • Lead regional project management initiatives, ensuring successful implementation and alignment with strategic goals. Develop and track project timelines, communicate progress to stakeholders, and mitigate risks impacting project success.

Facility, Equipment, and Property Management

  • Oversee and ensure the follow-up of all facility, equipment, and property maintenance protocols, with timely attention to repairs and upkeep. Through regular inspections and documented maintenance activities, ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

People Management and Development

  • Set and achieve targets for your direct reports, ensuring their continuous professional growth and maintaining a highly motivated team. By identifying and coaching talents, you will foster a professional, customer-oriented, and solution-focused working environment. Identify high-potential staff and provide advanced training opportunities to ensure succession planning. Hold regional quarterly documented meetings to address staff development and unit performance.

Staffing Levels Oversight

  • Ensure that unit managers staff the units efficiently, adhering to the staffing blueprint. Develop contingency staffing plans to address unexpected absences and ensure staffing levels meet patient care demands. Work closely with HR to forecast staffing needs based on patient volume trends and regional growth plans.

Staff Scheduling Management

  • Review and sign off on all staff monthly rosters and timesheets. Ensure that scheduling meets the unit's needs while maintaining a work-life balance for staff and managing overtime costs.

Ethics and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, rules, and regulations, integrating corporate values and compliance standards into daily business decisions—Prioritise health and safety by adhering to all health and safety requirements and ensuring the safety of others. Provide regular training sessions on compliance and ethical standards to reinforce organisational values.

Reporting

  • Prepare monthly regional reports and action plans against objectives. Ensure that reports provide a comprehensive overview of operational, financial, and clinical outcomes, supporting informed decision-making and strategic planning.

Patient Records Management

  • Hold unit managers accountable for ensuring that all patient records are accurate, complete, and current in physical and electronic systems like Euclid and Tmon. Conduct periodic audits of patient records across the region to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Coordinate with the Head of Quality to address identified discrepancies.

Patient Outcomes and Care Improvement

  • Focus on delivering agreed-upon patient care outcomes by overseeing the clinical care processes across all units. Collaborate with unit managers and clinical teams to develop and implement care improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction. Benchmark patient outcomes against regional and national standards to identify areas for improvement.

Incident Management

  • Manage patient incidents reported through unit managers and the quality team, ensuring resolution per LRC’s policies and procedures. Participate in regional reviews of incidents to identify patterns and implement preventative measures. Ensure consistent reporting to the Head of Quality and communicate lessons learned to unit managers to prevent recurrence.

Quality Management and KPI Management

  • Implement and uphold high standards of quality management across all clinics. Ensure compliance with clinical and quality standards to achieve the best patient outcomes. Conduct regular audits of unit compliance, patient outcomes, and safety measures, and follow up on corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement and achieve KPIs. Work closely with the Head of Quality to align unit-level quality initiatives with organisational objectives.

Data-Driven Decision Making

  • Use performance data to drive decision-making processes and identify opportunities for improvement. Engage with unit managers to ensure data-driven insights enhance patient care and operational efficiency

Risk Management

  • Identify potential risks within regional operations and develop strategies to mitigate them. Work with unit managers to implement and review risk mitigation measures regularly to maintain high patient safety and operational excellence standards. Coordinate with the Business Operations Head to ensure risks are communicated effectively and managed according to organisational standards.
Requirements
  • NQF Level 7 relevant business qualification or clinical qualification
  • A minimum of 5 years managerial experience, preferably in the healthcare industry.
  • Proven leadership and management experience.
  • Customer liaison and relationship building experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Professional impact and ability to build rapport easily.
