Nursing Standards Manager

An opportunity has arisen for a Nursing Standards Manager, to join the Nursing Management Team at Life Groenkloof hospital, situated in Pretoria, reporting to the Nursing Manager. The successful candidate will focus on facilitating the delivery of strategic initiatives on quality, product management and staff development.

The successful candidate will also lead and drive the effective implementation of the Life Healthcare integrated standardized systems, processes and practices throughout the Nursing department in a cost effective manner.

The candidate performs the role of Line Manager to the Clinical Training Specialists, Night Quality Supervisors and the Infection Prevention Specialist (enabling team) and is accountable to ensure effective integration of risk based clinical practices and training on a 24/7 basis throughout the nursing department.

Critical Outputs
  • Effective management of integrated quality and business process standards
  • Drive the implementation of the Life Healthcare standardized practices and key strategic initiatives;
  • Ensure objective investigations of serious patient complaints and adverse incidents through the enabling team;
  • Facilitate initiatives within the hospital to streamline practices elevating the time nurses spend at the patient bedside;
  • Support the Unit Manager to integrate and drive unit specific risks throughout the enabling team;
  • Facilitate clear understanding for effective implementation of product management as a critical business strategy;
  • Facilitate clear understanding for effective implementation of International Quality best practices and best care always as a key business strategy;
  • Ensure visibility and effective unit support of the enabling team to unit managers.
  • Effective management of all training programmes related to learners and qualified staff
  • Represent the hospital as the formal line manager for training at all nursing college activities to create joint understanding of training and business needs;
  • Manage the training budget for nursing;
  • Manage the clinical placement of learners;
  • Develop and manage the annual hospital training programme, in coordination with the nursing line.
  • Effective relationship building with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support Nurse Manager and Unit Manager with doctor interface to obtain commitment to the business strategy;
  • Promote and maintain cross-functional relationships on joint accountability projects inter-departmentally.
  • Effective line manager for the enabling team
  • Perform all line management responsibilities.
  • A Degree / Diploma in Nursing
  • Management experience (Process Manager, Unit Manager or Training Manager)
  • Exposure to Safety and Infection prevention would be an advantage
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council is essential
  • A proven record of delivering operational improvement projects
