National Industrial Relations Manager

A vacancy exists for a National Industrial Relations Manager, reporting to the Human Resources  Executive (South Africa). The successful candidate will help formulate strategy, but be personally responsible to drive the execution of the employee and industrial relations strategy. Furthermore, through engagement with the executive and senior management of the company, the successful candidate will pro-actively engage with stakeholders on strategic initiatives informed by inter alia changes to labour legislation and regulations that may require a change in work practices in the business. 

Critical Outputs
  • To manage industrial relations in the workplace through and with line management by means of constructive engagement on any IR related matters. This will include providing guidance on positive engagement with organised labour and employee representative committees.
  • Remain abreast of developments on the industrial relations/employee relations landscape and pro-actively advise on an appropriate strategic approach in this regard.
  • Managing and overseeing compliance to the company’s grievance and disciplinary processes
  • HR/IR Compliance Management – Assessing compliance with labour legislation and policies in close co-operation with the risk department to identify and consider possible risk areas within the business related to interest disputes, protest actions, CCMA and labour court matters that may have a reputational or financial risk for the company.
  • To develop IR training material and present information sessions.
  • Responsible for employee relations and coordination of management/union/employee engagements, communication and initiatives designed to improve employee relations
  • Facilitation, advise and coordination of union engagement structures with company management structures on matters of a collective nature such as annual wage negotiations
  • Relevant HR Degree with post graduate labour law qualification
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in labour legislation at management level
  • Solid background and experience in IR Management between Management, Organised Labour (Unions) and Employees
  • Must have 10 years IR Management experience dealing extensively with trade unions
  • Advanced computer literacy (Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
  • Prepared to travel to sites – across the country.
