3x Rehab Attendants | Rehabilitation Unit

Three vacancies exist for Rehab Attendants (Wards), based at Life Riverfield Rehab, reporting to Lolwana Noma, Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing holistic patient care and to collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders in line with Company & Hospital strategic objectives.


Critical Outputs

Facility programme readiness preparation:

  • Set-up of rehabilitation space
  • Prepare, clean and tidy gym area and gym equipment, as required between patients and at the end of the day
  • Ensure that equipment in the GYM is functional and in good working order.
  • Assist with cleaning of wheelchairs, wheelchair cushions and swimming pool towels as required
  • Assisting therapists with exercises, group therapy, mobility exercises, ADL, patient transfers, aquatic therapy for dressing and transfers, etc.
  • Assisting patient preparation by collecting patient from the ward or previous activity and preparing the patient for the therapy session. Preparation includes ensuring that the patient is in the correct attire and is aware of the treatment session.
  • Assist patient during cognitive exercises, e.g. writing, puzzles, memory activities

Helping with independence training:

  • Assisting patients with therapeutic activities in kitchen and bathroom
  • Support patients during feeding, e.g. opening of containers, cutting of food. (Patients may not be assisted with eating, unless approved by speech therapist)
  • Assisting rehab patients with effective carry-over of ADL skills learnt in therapy.
  • Accompany patients to various therapy appointments within the facility
  • Accompany patients on outings and community integration activities under direct supervision and instruction of a rehabilitation professional

Continue with leisure programme facilitated by therapists, especially over weekends:

  • Engage patients and support participation in games, puzzle building, and extramurals during self-development sessions.

Supporting nursing staff (under the instruction and supervision of nursing staff)

  • Assisting nursing staff with patient: bathing and self-care activities
  • Assist with feeding patients where there is no risk of aspiration; or harm
  • Accompanying stable patients with dementia in and around the ward
  • General support
  • Grade 12
  • Proof of training as a caregiver from a reputable training institution caregiver.
  • Previous experience in a hospital environment or rehabilitation facility.
  • First aid training is considered an advantage.
  • Willingness to attend in-service training in rehabilitation.
