- A 28 bed maternity unit with well-appointed wards and secure facilities. This unit is ably supported by a well baby clinic which provides support to the mother after delivery

Maternity Facilities
At Life Carstenhof Clinic each life we help to bring into this world receives only the finest medical care. Our maternity unit provides for total mother and baby care
- Four Labour Delivery Rooms.
- Accommodation on offer includes a Family room suite, 2 private rooms, 1 semi private room and four bedded general wards.
- All Rooms have en-suite bathrooms.
- A nursery with Photo-Therapy Unit.
- Milk Kitchen.
All rooms and labour units have television facilities.
All mothers who have pre booked their deliveries at Carstenhof Clinic will receive a Little Life branded maternity bag filled with the products you will need. Your new born baby will receive a complimentary beanie and you, as our special mother will receive a complimentary beauty treatment before being discharged from the hospital.
The first immunisation, in hospital, is for free and a baby registration service is offered by an independent service provider.
Please make use of the main entrance to the hospital for admission and/or visiting. Ample parking is available. Upon admission, kindly bring your bed booking receipt with you. (You receive this when completing your pre-admission documentation at the pre-admission clinic : please enquire regarding this service from your doctor).
Visiting Hours in Maternity The father of the baby is welcome any time until 20:00 15:00-16:00 Siblings of the baby and Grand Parents, the baby will stay with the mother
19:00-20:00 Open visiting hours, all babies are kept in the nursery (this for for security purposes and also to minimise infections)
Please note that no children (other than the siblings of the baby) under the age of 12 years will be allowed in the maternity unit. Only siblings of the baby.

Emergency
Our level 2 Accident and Emergency unit has a modern equipped resuscitation room, and is in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A Trauma Doctor is on duty 24 hours a day at the unit. Sophisticated diagnostic facilities and highly qualified specialists on call are part of the quality of service.
A radiology unit and a pathology laboratory form part of the hospital complex. This makes it possible to do sophisticated CT scans, x-rays and the majority of pathology tests in-house.

Patient and visitor information
At the Life Carstenhof Clinic, we take pride in providing you information that you need in order to make your stay with us a pleasant and hassle-free experience.

Accommodation
Accommodation at our Clinic is extensive and includes:
- Day beds
- Private wards
- General wards
- High care units
- Intensive care units
We also offer TVs in all of our wards.
Private wards are all en-suite. An a la carte menu is available.
Admission
Our admission process can be made much easier for you, if the following simple guidelines are followed.
- Medical aid patients should check with their medical aid / scheme 72 hours prior to admission to obtain pre-authorisation, failing to obtain authorisation may result in penalties enforced by the Medical Aids.
- Patients have to present their medical aid card and identity document on admission. Persons under the age of 18 have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- To speed up admission, a pre-admission clinic is available to assist you with completing the documentation and doing the required clinical questionnaires. Please enquire regarding this service from the doctors consulting room and/or the main reception.
- Also refer to the “Tariffs” and “Discharge” sections below, for more information on prepayment and payment procedures.
Discharge
On leaving, do not forget to collect your medication and x-rays. You will be given a discharge card to hand in at the reception desk in the foyer as you leave.
Public Relations Officer
Our Public Relations Officer serves as a link between the hospital, patients, doctors and staff. Should you need any assistance please contact her on 011 655 5500. If you are from out of town, our reception desk has a list of accommodation near the hospital for family members.
Service monitoring
In keeping with our goal to continue providing high quality care; we monitor our service to patients on an ongoing basis. In the wards are an electronic Customer Feedback Devise that we use to determine the levels of service rendering. Please complete the electronic questionnaire on a daily basis or as many times as you feel like it during your stay, at our facility. Participation is voluntary, but this will assist the hospital management to address any problems and improve our service to you.

Tariffs
- Our Clinic charges patients at medical aid / medical scheme rate.
- Various medical schemes have a pre-payment/co payment that is required on hospitalisation. Private patients will be required to pay a deposit prior to admission.
- It is recommended that private patients contact the Reception Supervisor prior to admission to establish the estimated hospital cost thus ensuring that the correct funds is available on admission.
- Patients requesting accommodation in private wards will be requested to pay the private ward rate on admission which is non refundable by your medical aid.
- A R250.00 bed booking fee for Maternity patients are payable upon pre-admission. This is non refundable.
Visitor Information
We welcome all of our patients` visitors, as we know what a difference the support of close family and friends can make.
In light of this, we also have to be aware of the rest that all of our patients require and we have thus provided for visitors to visit our hospitals only at certain designated times and these are:
- 10:00 - 11:00 (designated wards only)
- 15:00 - 16:00
- 19:00 - 20:00
Further to this, other rules apply with respect to visitors and these are:
- Visitors are restricted to three per patient at a time. Children are welcome but they must have an adult supervising them.
- No children are allowed to visit in the Paediatric Unit
- In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), we only allow two family members per patient.
- In the High Care wards, two visitors per patient are allowed.
