Specialist facilities

Maternity
We have a modern Maternity Unit at Suikerbosrand Clinic.

All mothers who have pre booked their deliveries at Life Suikerbosrand Clinic will receive a Little Life branded maternity bag filled with some of the products you will need.

As our special new parents you will receive a complimentary candle light diner before being discharged from the hospital.

The first immunisation, in hospital, is for free and a baby registration service is offered by the department of home affairs.

Visiting Hours in Maternity

The father of the baby is welcome any time until 20:00. Siblings of the baby are allowed one visit per stay to meet the new baby and Grand Parents are allowed during normal visiting hours.

Please note that no children (other than the siblings of the baby) will be allowed in the maternity unit.

Patient and visitor information

At the Life Suikerbosrand Clinic, we take pride in providing you information that you need in order to make your stay with us a pleasant and hassle-free experience.

Accommodation

Accommodation at our Clinic is extensive and includes:

  • Day beds
  • Private ward
  • General ward
  • High care unit
  • Intensive care unit
  • New Natal Intensive care unit

We also offer TVs in all of our wards.

Private wards are all en-suite. An a la carte menu is available.


Admission

Our admission process can be made much easier for you, if the following simple guidelines are followed.

  • Medical aid patients should check with their medical aid / scheme prior to admission to obtain pre-authorisation, if deemed necessary by the medical aid / scheme.
  • Patients have to present their medical aid card and identity document on admission. Persons under the age of 18 have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and need to supply their birth certificate.
  • To speed up admission, a pre-admission form is available from the resident doctor`s rooms and the Clinic`s reception, and should be either handed through to the Clinic`s reception or faxed through to us prior to hospitalisation. Please click here to find our contact details.


Customer Relations and Doctor Liaison Officer

Elmien Barnard serves as a link between the Clinic, patients, doctors and staff. Should you need any assistance please contact her at the reception desk of our hospital. If you are from out of town, a list of accommodation near the hospital for family members can be supplied.


Discharge

On leaving, do not forget to collect your medication and x-rays. You will be given a white discharge card to hand in at the reception desk in the foyer as you leave.


Service monitoring

In keeping with our goal to continue providing high quality care; we monitor our service to patients on an ongoing basis. During their stay patients are asked to complete an electronic questionnaire regarding their stay at the hospital. Participation is voluntary, but this will assist the Clinic’s management to address any problems and improve our service to you.

Tariffs

Patients Belonging to a Registered Medical Aid Fund

  • Hospital tariffs are charged according to the benefit scale. Some medical aid funds do require their members to pay part of incurred costs.
  • We recommend that you get prior authorisation regarding:
    • Costs that will be covered
    • Authorisation regarding hospitalisation
    • Maximum benefits or exclusions which might be applicable
    • Benefit restrictions regarding prosthesis and instrumentation

Patients Not Belonging to a Medical Aid Fund

  • An advance payment equalling the estimated costs of your account will be payable on admission. Please contact the Hospital reception regarding any enquiries about your hospitalisation.
  • The Clinic account does not include any other incurred costs e.g. for services rendered by your doctor, anaesthetist, radiologist, pathologist, etc. Please contact the Clinic regarding advance payments prior to your admission.


Visitor Information

We welcome all of our patients` visitors, as we know what a difference the support of close family and friends can make.

In light of this, we also have to be aware of the rest that all of our patients require and we have thus provided for visitors to visit our hospitals only at certain designated times and these are:

  • 11:00 - 12:00 (designated wards only)
  • 15:00 - 16:00
  • 19:15 - 20:15

Further to this, other rules apply with respect to visitors and these are:

  • Visitors are restricted to two per patient at a time. Children are welcome to visit in the General ward, Surgical and Medical wards, they must have an adult supervising them. No children under the age of twelve will be allowed to visit in the children`s ward.
  • In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), we only allow two family members per patient.
  • In the High Care wards, two visitors per patient are allowed.


What not to bring

  • Jewellery, cellphones or other valuables
  • Firearms


What to bring

  • Your ID Document and Medical Aid Membership Card
  • Proof of Medical Aid Pre-Authorisation (where applicable)
  • Doctor`s letters, WCA forms, X Rays and other relevant items
  • Toiletries / pyjamas
  • Reading materials
  • Infants: Mothers are to provide feeds, sterile bottles and diapers
