Life Birchmed Same Day Surgical Centre is centrally situated in the suburb of Birchleigh, Kempton Park. The unit is an alternative to hospitals in that it focuses on smaller surgical procedures which do not require an overnight stay. It is therefore a very cost effective alternative to overnight hospitals.

Specialist facilities
The ART Life Fertility Clinic
The Assisted Reproductive Technologies clinic is situated at the Life Birchmed Surgical Centre, 8 km from from the Johannesburg International Airport - OR Tambo.
This was the first private in vitro fertilization clinic in Africa, when it was established in 1983.
Since its beginning this clinic has been offering a successful and comprehensive service, which today includes Intra-uterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), surgical sperm retrieval, sex selection, surrogacy and treatments using donor gametes, as well as providing long term storage of eggs, embryos and sperm for cancer patients at a competitive cost.
Accommodation varying from five star hotels to economic guest houses is available near both the OR Tambo airport and the fertility clinic.

At Life Birchmed Surgical Centre, we take pride in providing you with the information that you need in order to make your stay with us a pleasant and hassle-free experience.

Accommodation
Admission
Our admission process can be made much easier for you, if the following simple guidelines are followed.
- Medical aid patients should check with their medical aid / scheme prior to admission to obtain pre-authorisation, if deemed necessary by the medical aid / scheme.
- Patients have to present their medical aid card and identity document on admission. Persons under the age of 18 have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- Also refer to the “Tariffs” and “Discharge” sections below, for more information on prepayment and payment procedures.
Discharge
On leaving, do not forget to collect your medication and x-rays. Before leaving the unit you must please sign the nursing documentation related to discharge.
Service monitoring
In keeping with our goal to continue providing high quality care; we monitor our service to patients on an ongoing basis. On discharge patients are asked to complete a questionnaire regarding their stay at the hospital (Electronic customer Feedback system). Participation is voluntary, but this will assist the hospital management to address any problems and improve our service to you.

Tariffs
- Birchmed Surgical Centre charges patients at medical aid / medical scheme rates.
- A prepayment is required on hospitalisation, from patients not covered by medical aid or a medical scheme.
- It is recommended that private patients contact the hospital`s accounts department prior to admission to establish the estimated hospital cost.
Visitor information
We welcome all of our patients visitors, as we know what a difference the support of close family and friends can make.
- Visitors are restricted to three per patient at a time. Children are welcome but they must have an adult supervising them. Adult supervision is not required in the children`s ward.
