Patient and visitor information

At Life The Glynnwood hospital we take pride in providing you with information that you may need in order to make your stay with us as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

If there is any further information that you or your family require regarding our hospital and our services, please feel free to contact us.

Accommodation

The Glynnwood realises the importance of personal comforts and accommodation and therefore includes private and semi-private rooms with bathroom, TV, music, and telephone.

  • Private - patients have access to en-suite bathroom facilities when available, TV and private telephone (on request)
  • Semi-private - patients share en-suite bathroom facilities and TV. A phone is available on request.
  • General - patients share TV and bathroom facilities. Public phones are available.
  • Our Paediatric ward is children friendly, well established and well equipped. Arrangements can be made for a parent to stay overnight with their child if circumstances permit. Physiotherapy, ICU facilities, separate gastro ward and isolation cubicles are available.

Parents are encouraged to bring their child’s favourite toy, blanket or pillow on admission, to provide some extra reassurance.

  • The warm and comfortable maternity unit is secured with a gate and monitored round the clock by means of a closed circuit camera. A fully equipped 10 cot Neonatal ICU forms part of the unit (a baby of only 550 grams was successfully treated here!).

Admission

Today most medical aids have to pre-authorise a patient’s admission to hospital. Patients are therefore encouraged to find out from their medical aids what requirements they may have, prior to admission. These requirements may include a deposit or co-payment, which must be made to the hospital prior to or on admission.

Patients are also encouraged to fill out admission forms prior to the actual date that they are to be hospitalised.

The hospital will require:

  • The patient’s identity document,
  • Medical aid / medical scheme card
  • If applicable, a pre-authorisation number, either at pre-admission or admission.

Where a pre-admission has been done, the patient need only collect his or her pre-printed form on the day of hospitalisation, to take up to the ward.

Discharge procedures

Only private patients will be required to pay in full on discharge, unless prior arrangements are made with credit control.

If relevant, patients will be supplied with prescribed medication to take home before being discharged. In addition, the nursing sister on duty will explain to the patient any nursing or convalescing care that may need to be followed.

A member of the nursing staff will escort mothers and their newborn babies to their cars. Only then is the baby officially handed over to the care of the parents.

A porter will assist elderly and / or incapacitated patients, to their cars.

Service monitoring

In keeping with our goal to continue providing high quality care, we monitor our service to patients on an ongoing basis via a newly implemented Patient Satisfaction feedback system.

Tariffs

  • The Glynnwood charges medical aid / medical schemes rates. Some medical aids pay fixed fees for certain procedures, and the hospital adheres to these tariffs.
  • A nominal surcharge is levied for private and semi-private rooms.
  • Private patients are required to pay a deposit on admission and to settle the account in full on discharge, unless prior arrangements are made with credit control.

Visitor information

Different visiting hours apply to different wards. Please check with the relevant sister in charge.
