Life Hunterscraig Hospital is a short stay, crisis intervention facility. It has a capacity for 35 clients plus 4 emergency beds. Clients are admitted on a voluntary basis for a variety of mental health conditions.

More recently we have introduced a substance abuse programme to cater for an increased demand. Clients are admitted for an average of 12 to 14 days but can stay up to 21 days. The treatment is focused on containment of the crisis, stabilising the client on medication and equipping him/her with life skills to cope with situations in their lives.

The hospital opened in 1993 to serve the needs of the community. We offer a safe, tranquil and therapeutic environment where our clients have an opportunity to reflect on their situations/problems and develop skills to manage these problems with the assistance of their psychiatrist and/or psychologist. Our permanent staff consists of registered nurses qualified in mental healthcare, a social worker and an occupational therapist.

Monitoring our clients’ views on all aspects of our service keeps us up to date with their needs and enables us to provide them with the best possible service at all times.
