Cardiac overview
At Life Rosepark Hospital’s cardiac unit we focus on all aspects of heart health
– from awareness and education initiatives to cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery
and the rehabilitation of cardiac patients.
Our dedicated, multi-disciplinary team of leading supporting specialists, other
healthcare professionals and specialist nursing staff, together with our state of the art
facilities and technology ensure the best possible cardiac service to the Bloemfontein
and Free State communities. Our cardiac specialists’ academic affiliations also
put them at the forefront of research and new cardiac related medical developments.
Our cardiac facilities
- A 24-hour level 2 trauma and emergency unit, backed by advanced life support paramedics, and capable of handling any form of cardiac emergency
- A high-technology cardiac catheterisation laboratory, equipped with the latest third generation imaging technology which enables the cardiologists to visualise even the very smallest vessels in the heart as well as the identification of any abnormalities that are often not commonly visible with many of the systems currently installed in South Africa - all of this at markedly reduced radiation dose levels. The system enables 3-dimensional (3D) cardio- vascular analysis which further improves the clinician’s ability to accurately determine the condition of the patient’s vessels
- An 8 bed cardiac intensive care unit accommodating patients who have undergone cardiac procedures in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory, and patients who have acute coronary syndromes or myocardial infarcts
- A dedicated cardio-thoracic theatre
- A 15 bed cardiology ward for the care of patients following major cardiac surgery and cardiac incidents
- A sub-acute rehabilitation facility housed at Life Pasteur Hospital, where our cardiac patients can receive post surgery assessments and take part in comprehensive rehabilitation programmes to assist them in their recovery
